A special moment at St Andrew’s Church on Monday 28th Sept 2026 as the Ampthill & District Preservation Society (ADPS) presented a cheque for £500 donation towards the restoration works — including the refurbishment of the iconic weather cockerel that watches over the town.

ADPS members Jason Hymus & David Stafferton were invited up to the very top of the church tower to hand the cheque to the chairperson of FOSA (Friends of St Andrews) Nigel Pollard who gave a very interesting talk on some of the history and facts about the church and places we could see from the top of the tower.

The Rector of St Andrews Church, the Reverend Mike Stewart then offered a thoughtful blessing for the cockerel and the work ahead and that has been undertaken so far.

Standing above Ampthill, looking out across the rooftops, it was a reminder of just how much history this church holds and how important it is that we help preserve it for future generations.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in the project and to all ADPS members whose continued support makes contributions like this possible. Community heritage is built on moments exactly like today.
